‘Lincoln‘ Tops Oscar Nominations With 12, Including Best Picture

 Films anchored by historical unrest and political turmoil, or tinged with personal struggles, proved the favorites of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with the announcement of the nominees for the 2013 Oscars on Thursday morning.

 Leading the pack was ‘Lincoln,‘ about the 16th president‘s efforts to abolish slavery, which picked up 12 nominations, including best picture, best director (for Steven Spielberg) and best actor (for Daniel Day-Lewis).

 In total, nine films were nominated for best picture, including ‘Zero Dark Thirty,‘ about the hunt for Osama bin Laden; ‘Argo,‘ a drama set amid the Iranian hostage crisis; ‘Django Unchained,‘ Quentin Tarantino‘s film about a slave‘s revenge; and ‘Les Miserables,‘ an adaptation of Victor Hugo‘s sorrowful French historical tale.

 Also nominated for best picture were French-language film ‘Amour‘; ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild,‘ an indie drama flavored with magical realism; ‘Silver Linings Playbook,‘ a contemporary story rooted in mental illness; and ‘Life of Pi,‘ based on a novel about an Indian boy‘s struggle for survival.

 入围最佳影片提名的还有法语电影《爱》(Amour) ，以魔幻现实主义为特点的独立电影《南蛮之地的野兽》(Beasts of the Southern Wild)，以精神疾病为题材的当代故事片《帕特的幸福剧本》(Silver Linings Playbook)和根据讲述一个印度男孩奋力求生的小说改编的电影《少年派的奇幻漂流》(Life of Pi)。

 The category can include between five and 10 films, depending on how Academy members vote. Last year‘s Oscars also included nine nominees for best picture.

 The crop of best-picture nominees was a mixed bag for major Hollywood studios, with just three of the films －－ ‘Les Miserables,‘ from Comcast Corp.‘s Universal Pictures; ‘Life of Pi,‘ from News Corp.‘s Twentieth Century Fox; and ‘Lincoln,‘ from DreamWorks Studios －－ products of the studio system.
