TRUTH # 3
Many companies will sell you a safety system, but very few are able to
address your specific needs
OPERATING COMPANIES in the process industries pursuing regulatory compliance or trying to adopt new safety standards represent an attractive business potential for companies that offer some kind of process control technology or automation as these seem to be coming out of the woodwork in an attempt to offer their products with some level of SIL compliance for use in safety application. Unfortunately, most of the new products offer solutions for the fail safe side, only a couple of these products can address the need for safety and process uptime simultaneously. Some of these products can address the requirements for a particular SIL (i.e. up to SIL 2) or a particular application (i.e. Safety Shutdown) very few can fulfill the requirements of any SIL, any critical application from Safety Shutdown or Fire and Gas to critical turbo machinery process control while ensuring process uptime. That additional flexibility is overlooked most of the times, but it is of great economic value not only because of the increase utilization of the assets.
