Industrial Control Network Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley industrial control network adopts the architecture of three levels: Ethernet in the information level is used for data collection and program servicing. ControlNet, DH+, DH485 and remote I/O in the automation and control level are used for real-time I/O control, controller interlocking and message transferring. DeviceNet in the device level is used for data low-cost and high-efficiency integration of the low-level devices. EtherNet Network In 1985, ISO (International Standards Organization) made Ethernet an international standard. It is very common for workstations and PCs shipping today to include an Ethernet interface card for compatibility with both 10M bit/sec and 100M bit/sec Ethernet networks. The most popular ways to use Ethernet networks today is to conduct program maintenance, send plant-floor data to and from MIS and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) systems, perform supervisory control, provide connectivity for operator interfaces, and log events and alarms. An Ethernet network is ideal for applications requiring: Large data transfers Wide access (site to site) No time-critical data exchange ControlNet Network The Allen-Bradley ControlNet network is a state-of-the-art control network that meets the demands of real-time, high- throughput applications. The ControlNet network combines the functionality of an I/O network and a peer-to-peer network while providing high-speed performance for both functions. The ControlNet network gives you deterministic, repeatable transfers of all mission-critical control data in addition to supporting transfers of non-time-critical data. The patented media-access method used on the ControlNet network results in deterministic delivery of time-critical (scheduled) data by assigning it a higher priority than non-time-critical (unscheduled) data. As a result, I/O updates and controller-to-controller interlocking always take precedence over program uploads and downloads and messaging. The ControlNet network and products such as the ControlNet-to-DeviceNet Linking Device (catalog number 1788-CN2DN), help deliver solutions that integrate Foundation Fieldbus devices and DeviceNet devices into a common, seamless architecture. All devices on the ControlNet network have direct access to all data on FOUNDATION Fieldbus network. DeviceNet Network The DeviceNetTM network is a low-level network that provides connections between simple industrial devices (such as sensors and actuators) and higher-level devices (such as PLC controllers and computers). The DeviceNet network is a flexible, open network that works with devices from multiple vendors. The DeviceNet network: Provides a cost-effective networking solution to simple devices Lets you access data in intelligent sensors/actuators from multiple vendors Provides master/slave and peer-to-peer capabilities Producer / Consumer services let you configure devices, control, and collect information over a single network
